September 23rd LAN & hackathon a huge success – What’s next?

The Week 9 LAN and Hackathon was a monstrous success! Thanks to all the companies and students who made this possible.

A special thanks goes out to Steve Velcev, the society’s president, for all the hard work he has put in throughout the course of this year!

Moving forward, we are looking to expand. Talk to me if you think you can help the society in any of the following ways:

  • Content for this website
  • Social media engagement
  • Event organisation
  • Hackathon development
  • Forum administration
  • Discord administration
  • Marketing materials (Poster creation, video editing)
  • Photography/Videography
  • Promotional presence on campus
  • SRC relations
  • Company relations (or company connections)
  • Gaming Teams
    • Captaincy
    • Management
    • Coaching
    • Participation
    • Social media
    • Logistics

If I think you can help, I’ll find you. If you don’t think your skills are applicable, come talk to me. We’ll make it work.

Above all, the one thing we can do to make the society more amazing is to get more people involved. IT Students, Non IT students, technology affects and inspires us all. We should all be a part of this. Together we can do incredible things.

We are planning to start a competitive gaming team to be entered into the DGL and MSSA competitions. We will be called Monash Lions Gaming ZA (MLGza). This gaming team will be associated with MITS and will be managed by MITS members. This gaming team is not replacing MITS. If you are a gamer, competitive or not, get hold of us on Discord, on the forums or in person to discuss what happens next. We are looking to hold trials for the Lions (Premier team) and the Cubs (Second team) soon in order to start practicing over the end-of-year holidays to get ahead of our competition. Currently we have League of Legends, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Overwatch as our main focus. If you want to play something else competitively within the DGL or MSSA roster and have a team ready, come speak to us for backing from MITS and Monash SA. We’re going to hit the scene hard and hopefully leave with some silverware and tickets to RAGE for next year.
